School Psychologist

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (1): Come in, Mrs. Martinez.

INTERPRETER:

MRS. ROSA MARTINEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (2): Now, according to the file I have here. This is the second call we made to you. You didn´t attend the first call from the school. Can you tell me why?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PASYCHOLOGIST (2): I understand, but you´ve got nothing to worry about. We  do not care about your immigration status. We only care for your son´s well-being and education.

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (3): I have no answer for that. But keep calm. I can tell you that no other than the school staff is present here and around. The school will not allow any immigration officer to enter unless with an order provided by a court.

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (4): Just keep calm. Mrs. Martinez, you previously mentioned that there was more than one reason why you didn´t attend the first call. May I know what other reason was that?

MRS. ROSA MARTINEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (5): I understand Mrs. Martinez. If you need our help to get permission, we can talk to your boss to allow you to come.

MRS. ROSA MARTINEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (6): Don´t worry Mrs. Martinez. Now, let me get to the main point of this call. First, we want to discuss the situation of your son, Carlitos. Carlitos has been a good student. This is the second term with us, but a few months ago, we have noticed a changed in him.

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (7): Look. As I said before, Carlitos has shown some changes in his beahaviour. He is distracted in class, according to what his teachers have reported me. I was also told that he is always sleepy and tired. He hasn´t failed with his homeworks and projects but the quality of them have also diminished. Besides, he seems to get away from his classmates during his break times. He has been seen most of the time alone. Do you know what is wrong with him?

MRS. ROSA MARTINEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (8): Well, we think that something serious happens to him. Has he had any problem with you or your husband?

MRS. ROSA MARTINEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (9): Don´t you think Mrs. Martinez that Carlitos misses and needs the presence of his dad?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (10): But again, maybe Carlitos needs mor the support of his dad, don´t you think so?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (11): Have you talked to Carlitos about his life in this country and your immigration status?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (12): But, you know that being a member of this school, Carlitos needs to interact with his classmates and other students.

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (13): Do you know what your son does after school?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (14): Does your sister still live with you?

MRS. ROSA MARTINEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (15): Does that mean that your son stays at home alone most of the time until you come back from work?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (16): Do you know what your son does all the time he is alone at home after school?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (17): Don´t you think all these extra activities are causing the problems of distraction and tiredness on your son?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (18): Is there any way you can help your son reduce all his extra activities by programing the household chores with your son?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (19): What do you mean by those changes?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (20): Excellent plan, Mrs. Martinez. For your son´s well-being I hope you can make this happen soon. Any idea when this may happen?

MRS. ROSA MARTÍNEZ:

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (21): I wish you all the best luck with your business plan. Meanwhile, I suggest you talk to your son to reduce his overload of tasks at home. He doesn´t need to do all the household chores altogether. Maybe if he does the laundry, he can take a day of the week to do it. The cleaning by parts each day, instead of cleaning the house the whole day. And, about the food, why don´t you bring dinner from the place where you work? If there is any problem concerning to the food from the place where you work, we can defend you or help you with your boss. Anything else you want to say Mrs. Martinez.
